CLEVELAND, June 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- US bottled water demand is forecast to reach 16.9 billion gallons in 2022, according to Bottled Water: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Demand for still water in PET (polyethylene terephthalate) single-serve containers will be spurred by continued consumer interest in a healthier alternative to carbonated soft drinks. Growth in the number of business establishments will boost sales of bulk quantities of bottled water, while rising disposable personal income levels will drive sales of sparkling water. However, faster bottled water sales gains will be restrained by competition from ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee and tea, as well as tap water filtration devices.

Flavored and fortified water is the only product segment expected to see declines through 2022. Sales will be negatively impacted by competition from beverages featuring little or no added ingredients, concerns regarding artificial sweeteners, and increased competition from other RTD beverages and water flavor drops.
These and other key insights are featured in Bottled Water: United States. This report forecasts to 2022 US bottled water demand in gallons. Total demand is segmented by type in terms of:
- PET single-serve still water
- bulk still water
- other packaged still water
- flavored and fortified water
- sparkling water
Bottled water encompasses water packaged in bottles, cans, or jars in single-serve or bulk sizes. Carbonated soft drinks, club soda, seltzer, and tonic water are excluded from the scope of this report.
To illustrate historical trends, total demand and the various segments are provided in annual series from 2007 to 2017.
