US Army Partners with US Hispanic Leadership Institute to Help Students Pursue Higher Education
Army to Award Student a $203,200 ROTC College Scholarship at USHLI National Conference
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army has renewed its long-standing partnership with the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) to provide students, educators and community leaders with resources that will help develop the next generation of leaders. As honorary co-chair of the USHLI National Conference, Feb. 13-16, in Chicago, the Army will highlight the substantial educational and career opportunities offered through the Army.
At the USHLI conference, Army representatives will conduct a leadership development workshop – "Mission Possible: Being a Leader in the Millennial Generation" – designed to help students identify their personal leadership style. The Army will also host an interactive exhibit booth at the College & Career Fair where conference attendees can learn about multiple career paths and college scholarship opportunities offered through the Army.
During the conference's Educational Achievement Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 14, Lt. Col. Christopher Clay will present a $203,200 scholarship to Army ROTC cadet Jocelyn Herrera, a freshman at Loyola University Chicago, to pursue her academic career. Currently, the Army ROTC offers more than $270 million in merit-based scholarships for students to attain a college education. Financial benefits include two, three, and four-year scholarships, an annual book allowance and a tax-free stipend of up to $500 a month.
In addition, the Army will also serve as the national co-chair of the USHLI Student Leadership Series (SLS) program. The SLS program reaches thousands of high school students throughout the year and encourages them to pursue a higher education. At SLS events across the country, Army representatives will provide students and educators with information about free resources, such as March2Success, which helps students prepare for college entrance exams.
