U.S. Army and Ten80 help students explore STEM education ahead of National STEM Day
Students will test teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking skills at Miami STEMFest
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading up to National STEM Day (Nov. 8), nearly a thousand Miami-area high school students and educators will gather at the Miami Airport Convention Center today for a STEMFest event hosted by Ten80 Education and the U.S. Army.
Students will work alongside U.S. Army Soldiers in a series of interactive workshops that encourage them to apply teamwork and leadership skills and use critical thinking to overcome challenges. The workshops also show students how they can turn their visions into reality through STEM-related exercises, from coding and gaming to the art of marketing their ideas.
"The U.S. Army's partnership with Ten80 Education enables us to help students explore the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math education as foundations for successful careers," said James Ortiz, director of marketing, U.S. Army Marketing and Research Group. "The U.S. Army is the Nation's most innovative organization and STEM skills are essential to our success. With support from Ten80 Education, the U.S. Army continues to mentor thousands of students across America to pursue higher education and available scholarship opportunities in the U.S. Army."
Through it's partnership with Ten80 Education, the U.S. Army is able to reach students from across the nation and parallel the advanced training required of Soldiers and the skills harbored by STEM professionals in the civilian workforce. This relationship also helps those students and their families understand the many opportunities the U.S. Army provides to obtain a college education to foster their STEM careers. The U.S. Army helps offset the growing issue of college debt through financial support programs like the GI Bill and the U.S. Army ROTC—which is one of the largest scholarship awarding organizations in the world.
"Much like U.S. Army Soldiers, STEM students are problem-solvers with a heightened interest in innovation," said chief executive officer and president of Ten80 Education, Terri Stripling. "The Army is committed to education initiatives and advanced technology, making the partnership with Ten80 a natural fit for both organizations."
Ten80 Education and the U.S. Army will wrap up a sucessful 2017 with a final STEMFest in Raleigh, N.C. on Nov. 14. To learn more, visit goarmy.com and click here to watch a video highlighting the U.S. Army's partnership with Ten80 Education.
