US and International Supply Chain Leaders to Convene for 32nd Global GS1 Healthcare Conference on Patient Safety and Supply Chain Security
Representatives from U.S. FDA, McKesson, Johnson & Johnson, and Others Will Share GS1 Standards Implementation Strategies
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., Sept. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Healthcare leaders from private industry and government agencies will gather to share use cases and progress updates on the worldwide implementation of GS1 Standards to help improve patient safety, supply chain security and efficiency. During the Global GS1 Healthcare Conference, speakers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), McKesson, Johnson & Johnson, hospitals from across the world, and others will share best practices for implementing GS1 Standards in healthcare. The event is taking place in Chicago, IL, October 17-19, 2017, at the Westin Chicago River North.
More than 300 participants from hospitals, manufacturers, distributors, industry associations, and government and regulatory agencies from nearly 40 countries are expected to attend the conference. The three-day event, themed "Safer, more efficient care starts with a simple scan," is hosted by GS1 US®, an information standards organization that brings industry communities together to solve supply-chain problems through the adoption and implementation of GS1 Standards.

- Plenary session: Hospitals, doctors and clinicians - This session will focus on the use of GS1 Standards in hospitals, presenting a wide range of perspectives and experiences from varying experts from across the globe
- Plenary session: Pharmaceutical traceability from manufacturer to patient - Healthcare leaders will discuss how traceability improves patient safety by providing end-to-end visibility as products travel through the supply chain, while enabling efficient product recalls when necessary.
- Plenary session: Unique Device Identification (UDI) - UDI aims to establish a single device identification system that is consistent, unambiguous and globally standardized. The session provides an overview of the status of UDI across the world and information about other initiatives regarding track and trace for medical devices.
- Closing keynote presentation by Ms. Sorrel King, Founder, The Josie King Foundation – a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving patient safety by uniting healthcare providers and consumers, and funding innovative safety programs to create a culture of patient safety.
