TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- US Airways' (NYSE: LCC) employees around the world will "BE PINK" today to kick off the airline's partnership with the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC). Throughout the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, US Airways employees will show their support of breast cancer programs through special BE PINK uniform pieces and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks in Charlotte, N.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. This partnership will help raise much-needed funds to support the American Cancer Society's programs.

"For many of us, cancer has struck close to home. We have been touched by someone who fights this disease in its various forms," said Elise Eberwein, Executive Vice President, People, Communications and Public Affairs. Customers flying US Airways this October will notice Airport Customer Service employee, pilots and flight attendants with pink scarves, ties, blouses and tailored shirts. Fleet service and maintenance employees will sport pink hats and t-shirts. Non-uniformed employees, as well as the flying public, have also purchased other clothing and special BE PINK branded items. A portion of each BE PINK uniform and branded item purchase will be donated to the American Cancer Society. As of Sept. 26, employees have raised more than $16,000 in funds through uniform purchases; some items are still available for purchase at usairwaysstore.com.
As part of BE PINK, US Airways has become a significant sponsor of the MSABC walks this fall, contributing more than $100,000 as a company. To date, 324 employees have created 40 teams to participate in the walks, raising more than $21,000 for the walks alone. The US Airways-sponsored Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks will take place on Oct. 20 in Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and on Oct. 27 in Phoenix.
