Urology of Virginia First US Practice to Acquire Novel ExactVu™ Micro-Ultrasound System for Prostate Imaging and Biopsy
New state-of-the-art micro-ultrasound system allows patients to benefit from the latest imaging technologies
TORONTO and VIRGINIA BEACH, April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Urology of Virginia (U of V), the largest full-service urological practice in Southeastern Virginia, USA is excited to announce that it is the first US-based customer for Exact Imaging's ExactVu™ high resolution micro-ultrasound system for targeted prostate biopsies. The ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is the standard-of-care procedure that allows urologists to sample a man's prostate and gather biopsy tissue that can be analyzed pathologically to determine the presence of prostate cancer. With a 300% improvement of resolution over conventional ultrasound, the ExactVu™ micro-ultrasound platform provides the urologist with a whole new level of resolution by which to examine the prostate. With the ExactVu system, U of V's urologists will now be able to actually visualize areas of interest in the prostate and specifically target biopsies at those suspicious areas in addition to performing systematic ultrasound biopsy protocols.
"We've been involved with the development of this exciting new technology for 3 years as a key participant in Exact Imaging's large multi-centre clinical trial, "says Dr. Gregg Eure, Urologist and Research Chairman at Urology of Virginia. "We knew that we wanted to have this technology as a key part of our patient offering to provide our urologists with the best possible imaging tool for guiding our patients' prostate biopsies. Using the ExactVu micro-ultrasound lets us actually see suspicious regions - - and then target them, instead of performing "blind" biopsies on more conventional systems."
"Our investment in this new, state-of-the-art micro-ultrasound imaging system is aligned with our commitment to provide the latest tools and technologies to our urologists so that our patients may benefit from the highest standard of care," says Dr. Michael Fabrizio, Urologist and Chief Executive Officer of Urology of Virginia. "The ExactVu micro-ultrasound system has superior resolution to the conventional ultrasound as well as to MRI. From a patient perspective, biopsies using the micro-ultrasound system will allow one's U of V urologist to use the latest imaging tool to scan, identify suspicious regions and to target those biopsies."
With the ExactVu™ high resolution micro-ultrasound system, U of V's patients can now benefit from this breakthrough ultrasound-based imaging modality for the:
- visualization of the prostate,
- visualization of anatomical targets and anomalies,
- characterizing suspicious regions in the prostate, and
- guiding and performing both systematic and real-time targeted prostatic biopsies.
The ExactVu high resolution micro-ultrasound system is in operation at the Urology of Virginia's main campus at 225 Clearfield Avenue in Virginia Beach, VA. For patients interested in having their prostate biopsy performed using this high resolution micro-ultrasound system, please call 1.757.457.5100 and email [email protected] to schedule your appointment.
