Urban Pace Sells First Carbon Neutral Home in Washington

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Urban Pace, a top Washington, DC, real estate sales company, today announced the sale of what it calls "a truly unique masterpiece."  This pre-Civil War home at 19 4th Street, NE in Washington, DC, has been transformed into a carbon neutral residence ranking in the top 1% most energy efficient homes in the nation.

Some of the features that make the home carbon neutral are an Owens Corning Energy Complete system, geothermal heating and cooling zoned throughout the home, reused materials from the original building, a tankless hot water heater, a Blueline energy management system and a permeable paving system in the back yard.  It also incorporates Energy Star appliances from Wolf and Subzero.

The rehabilitation of the property was carried out by Greenspur, a local design/build firm.

"This home was sold within 3 days of going on the market," said Kathy Brandel, Managing Broker for Urban Pace Fine Homes and the listing agent for the property.  "The uniqueness of the renovation definitely sparked tremendous interest," said Brandel.

Greenspur has agreed to give the public a further chance to view the property before its new owners move in.  "We felt it was important to allow people to see how sustainable design elements can be incorporated into the 19th Century homes you find all over Washington," said Mark Turner of Greenspur.

The public will be invited to see the property on Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24, from 1 to 3.
