Urban Caucus Chair Urges 'Yes' Vote for School Meals
WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), Chairman of the Congressional Urban Caucus, issues the following statement urging House members to support school meals for hungry children by voting tomorrow for The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307).
"I urge my colleagues to join me in voting YES on S. 3307 to strengthen the school meal program and ensure every student has access to high-quality nutrition. By increasing the reimbursement rate for the first time in 30 years, streamlining program enrollment, and expanding wellness policies, we make sure that our next generation will have the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy minds and bodies.
"My colleagues, Chairman Miller of the Education and Labor Committee, Chairwoman DeLauro of the Agriculture Subcommittee and Co-Chairman McGovern of the House Hunger Caucus, have worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible deal for students, families, schools and the federal budget.
"I'm particularly grateful for their support of the Philadelphia School Lunch Pilot and the survey method to determine eligibility. This bill will ensure that no child in Philadelphia, or anywhere in America, goes a day without a good, healthy meal, and I am proud to vote for it."
