Urban Catalyst Moves Forward with Site Permits for The Mark @ SJSU Despite Months of Government-imposed Restrictions
222 Unit High-Rise Adjacent to San Jose State University to Provide Critical Student Housing
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Urban Catalyst, an Opportunity Zone Fund focused on ground-up development projects in Silicon Valley, today announced that it submitted a site development permit package for The Mark @ SJSU, a student housing project located a half-block from the San Jose State University main campus on 475 South 4th Street.
"We aren't going to let a pandemic slow down our work to bring more student housing to downtown San Jose," said Erik Hayden, Founder of Urban Catalyst. "The shortage of student housing options has reached a critical point for San Jose State University, with students saying they've experienced homelessness or have had to resort to sleeping in their cars. The Mark will address this crisis, adding hundreds of new units for students who wish to be steps from the campus, and near other popular downtown destinations."
Designed by BDE Architectural, The Mark will offer a mix of 222 studio and one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units, with up to 850 student housing beds. In addition to being close to the university, The Mark will be located adjacent to the SoFA Arts District, a popular student destination for recreation and activities. Urban Catalyst plans to start construction in 2021.
