UPMC Health Plan Earns 'A-' Rating from A.M. Best

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A.M. Best Co. has reaffirmed the "A- Excellent" financial strength ratings for all of the insurers in UPMC's Insurance Services Division.    

UPMC Health Plan (HMO and commercial plans), UPMC for You (Medicaid), UPMC Health Network (PPO products), UPMC Health Benefits (stop loss coverage, worker's compensation, et al), and Community Care Behavioral Health each received financial ratings of "A- (Excellent) Stable."

In determining its rating, A.M. Best noted that the Insurance Services Division plays an integral role as the managed care subsidiaries of the UPMC integrated healthcare delivery system. The integration presents opportunities for the group and the health system to coordinate care management programs, with the health plans acting as a major source of referral and the health system being a major provider of services for the  plans' members.
