UPDATE TO LOCATION: Eisenhower Memorial Commission to Unveil Frank O. Gehry Design for National Eisenhower Memorial
WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thursday, March 25, the Eisenhower Memorial Commission will unveil the preferred design concept created by world-renowned architect Frank O. Gehry for the National Eisenhower Memorial. When completed, the Eisenhower Memorial will be the first presidential memorial of the 21st century, and only the seventh in U.S. history. It will be built on a four-acre site at the base of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. (between 4th and 6th Streets SW, south of Independence Avenue).

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission was created by Congress in 1999 to direct and manage memorial development. The bipartisan Commission is comprised of twelve members: four Senators, four Representatives, and four private citizens. It is led by Chairman Rocco Siciliano and Vice Chairman Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI). A location for the National Eisenhower Memorial was selected in 2005 and congressionally approved in 2006. Frank Gehry Partners, LLP was selected from 44 architectural firms that competed to design the memorial. Frank Gehry is one of the worlds' most influential architects.
