Update on Status of the Cayman Islands Following Earth Tremor January 19, 2010 as of 12:00pm ET
GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is providing the following update following this morning's reported earth tremor in the Cayman Islands:
At 9:23 am local time on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 an earth tremor measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale occurred 32 miles south of Bodden Town, Grand Cayman at coordinates 19.021 N, 80 deg 50.77 min W. The tremor was 40 miles ESE of George Town, the capital of Grand Cayman. The earth tremor occurred at a depth of 6.2 miles.
No injuries have been reported and there have been no reports of damage to buildings. Business and schools have remained open and residents have resumed their normal daily routines.
No tsunami warning was issued from this event.
