On October 8, 2014, Analog Devices, Inc. (Analog Devices) announced the launch of 16-bit, A/D converter. The Company claims that its A/D converter is more than twice as fast as currently available converters and provides error-free operation at temperatures of up to 175 degrees Celsius. Further, the AD7981 PulSAR® A/D converter (A/D converter), which has sample rates of up to 600-kSPS, is best suited for applications including wide bandwidth sonic and vibration measurement as well as low power, lower-bandwidth pressure and temperature sensing. The Company informed that the A/D converter maximizes battery life in difficult environments by scaling power linearly with the sample rate, using only 4.65 mW at a full speed of 600 kSPS and 70 µW at 10 kSPS. In addition, the A/D converter provides typical performance of 0.7-LSB INL and 91-dB SNR enabling a high dynamic range with better accuracy and precision. Sunedison Inc. Research Reports
On October 1, 2014, Sunedison Inc. (Sunedison) announced that the Company's most advanced polysilicon technology has commenced production and is on target to produce solar material at the lowest cost in the world. The Company informed that this new technology will enable it to deliver a 400 watt peak solar panel at a cost of $0.40 per watt peak by 2016. Further, the new technology, called 'high pressure fluidized bed reactor' (HP-FBR), produces high purity polysilicon 10 times more efficiently and with 90% less energy used than non FBR technologies. The Company claims that HP-FBR technology will reduce the cost of the raw material needed to produce solar panels to less than $0.05 per watt peak by 2016. The HP-FBR technology is now in production in an Ulsan, Korea joint venture facility of SunEdison, SunEdison Semiconductor, and Samsung Fine Chemicals (SFC). The Company stated that the capacity of the Korean plant, which is likely to operate at full capacity in Q1 2015, was originally designed for 10,000 metric tons (MT) per year but has been enhanced to 13,500 MT.
