SOUTH EASTON, Mass., June 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The workers who produce frozen pizzas for Uno Foods in Brockton, Mass., have voted by a more than 2-1 margin in favor of Teamsters Local 653 representation. The 90 workers joined the union seeking respect and better working conditions at the company.
"We needed a union so that we will be treated better, and so our hours and benefits are no longer cut. That's why we are excited to join the Teamsters," said Carlos Pina, who has worked at Uno Foods for five years.
"Congratulations to these workers for sticking together and taking a positive step forward by joining Teamsters Local 653," said Brian McElhinney, President of Local 653 in South Easton, Mass. "Special thanks go out to the leadership of Teamsters Joint Council 10 under Dave Laughton, Local 25 President Sean O'Brien, organizer Roger Travers and the Local 653 Executive Board for all their hard work and assistance in this organizing campaign."
This is the second organizing victory for Local 653 in the past week. Drivers and monitors who work for North River Collaborative and transport children with special needs also voted to join Local 653. There are 74 workers in that bargaining unit.
