TAMPA, Fla., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Public safety and law enforcement professionals can prepare to climb the ranks or transition into new roles with the new For-Credit Graduate Certificate in Public Safety and Law Enforcement Leadership available 100% online from the University of St. Thomas. Designed for bachelor's degree-holding professionals, this program can be completed in as little as eight months.
Ranked a Best National University by U.S. News & World Report (and named one of America's Top Colleges by Forbes), St. Thomas has pioneered police graduate education for almost 50 years. The new certificate program prepares students for management positions including police commander, chief of police, sheriff, fire chief, emergency management coordinator, special agent and more.
"To be effective in public safety and law enforcement today, you need strong leadership skills," says Dr. Deb DeMeester, Director of the Public Safety and Law Enforcement Leadership Program at St. Thomas. "We teach officials to communicate more effectively, motivate others, think critically, and work conflicts skillfully. Applying theory to practice, students track trends, needs and issues; and develop strategies for forging partnerships, catalyzing action and addressing community concerns ― all while maintaining personal and professional integrity."
St. Thomas' certificate program is comprised of four courses. The 12 credits earned can be applied toward a Master of Arts in Public Safety and Law Enforcement, should students wish to apply for the program to continue their studies.
Powered by the technology and support services of University Alliance, both programs feature instructor-led streaming video lectures, discussion boards, live simulations, real-time chats, group study and social and professional networking. Students can access courses anytime, anywhere from any computer or mobile device.
Enrollment for the For-Credit Graduate Certificate in Public Safety and Law Enforcement Leadership is now open. Classes begin in August. To learn more or to enroll, visit www.StThomasOnline.com or call 855-295-1867.
