This two-day, face-to-face seminar provides 1.5 continuing education units (CEUs) for physical therapists and occupational therapists. The course emphasizes the interpretation of basic science knowledge and the development of basic clinical skills, which are needed to complete a differential evaluation of the upper extremity dysfunction, then proceeds to treatment. General principles of functional anatomy, tissue and joint biomechanics, pathology and treatment are presented. The clinical content of the seminar includes physical examination, with special emphasis on performance of joint mobility and assessment of end-feel. Non-thrust manipulations are instructed and supportive treatments are discussed.
This seminar is taught by Cathy Busby, PT, MSPT, MAT, OCS, MTC, FAAOMPT, a physical therapist at Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina who teaches continuing education units at the university. She is certified in manual physical therapy and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.

About Cathy Busby, PT, MSPT, MAT, OCS, MTC, FAAOMPT:
Ms. Busby is currently the owner of a physical therapy practice in Raleigh, North Carolina, specializing in orthopaedics and sports physical therapy. A 1981 graduate of Duke University's Physical Therapy program, she also holds a MAT from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and previously worked as a teacher and coach. She completed the Manual Therapy Certification program in 1986 from University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and joined the faculty in 1988. Ms. Busby was certified as an orthopaedic clinical specialist by ABPTS in 1992. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).
