SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of San Francisco's (USF) Silk Speaker Series will host Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr for a moderated talk on Tuesday, October 23 from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. at the War Memorial Gym at the Sobrato Center on campus. The event is open to the public (registration is required) and will be moderated by former head coach of the USF women's basketball team and Director of Special Initiatives Jennifer Azzi and Dan Rascher, professor and director of Academic Programs for the Sport Management program.
"It is a pleasure to welcome one of the greatest coaches in the world to the University of San Francisco," stated Azzi. "Steve Kerr is an incredible person with an acute awareness of his platform to speak up for those who might not have a voice. Steve's brilliance is that he transcends coaching and his leadership reaches far beyond the basketball court."
Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr carries 30 years of NBA experience as a player, coach, television analyst, and front office executive, including a three-year stint as president of basketball operations and general manager for the Phoenix Suns. Currently entering his fifth season as head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Kerr has guided the club through four of the most prolific seasons in NBA history with a list of accomplishments that includes three NBA championships, four straight NBA Finals appearances, the NBA's single-season wins record (73), an NBA Coach of the Year award (2015–16), and four of the five winningest seasons in franchise history.
"Given his broad and deep knowledge of the business of sports as an athlete, executive, broadcaster, and coach, combined with his unique global perspective on where sports sits in our culture, Steve Kerr can educate our students on important leadership qualities," said Rascher.
Now in its second year, the Silk Speaker Series has featured speakers including NBA great Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr., 66th Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Former Chair of the Federal Reserve Dr. Janet L. Yellen, Nobel laureates in economic sciences Dr. Myron Scholes and Dr. Robert Merton, and Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, Inc., among others.
