University Of Pennsylvania Scores Exclusive Use Of Sparta Science Technology Among Ivy League Athletic Programs
Sparta Caps Off a Successful Q3 by Partnering with "College Football's Most Historic Program"
MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sparta Science, a Silicon Valley company that applies data and technology to the pursuit of human resilience, today announced a partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Quakers athletic program, granting exclusive use of its state-of-the-art Sparta software platform among Ivy League schools.
The Sparta software platform allows coaches and trainers to measure and reduce player injury risk, and improve student-athlete health and performance. Sparta monitors athlete readiness and health with the Sparta Scan, a test that collects data from a series of jumps on a force plate, compares it to data collected from more than 10,000 professional and collegiate athletes over a nine-year span and predicts injury risk with proven accuracy.
"Sparta allows us to quantify athletic parameters in a reliable and reproducible way, giving us data points to follow student-athletes' performance in a way that's not previously been possible," said Dr. Brian J. Sennett, Chief of Sports Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and Head Team Physician, Penn Athletics. "It's one of the cornerstones of our sports performance program, allowing us to tailor training to a specific sport and athlete and also identify injury potential parameters, monitor lifestyle elements and train to mitigate any risks."
By partnering with University of Pennsylvania, home of a top teaching and research hospital and the Wharton School of Business, Sparta is well-positioned to further its mission of bringing research-based principles to the health of student athletes and to prove the impact of reducing injuries through data-based predictive technologies on a program's bottom line.
"We're excited to partner with a prestigious institution like the University of Pennsylvania who shares our belief that supporting student-athletes through research-backed application of technology will have lasting benefits for both the athletes and the school," said Phil Wagner, M.D., CEO and Founder of Sparta Science. "Their unique combination of business and medical expertise will help pave the way for broader applications of Sparta technology in healthcare."
The University of Pennsylvania is just one of eight new clients to join the Sparta Science roster in the last 45 days of Q3. In addition to collegiate and professional sports teams, Sparta will be applying its technology to help build resilience and prevent injury among the US Military and the San Francisco 49ers. As a company that believes in applying the scientific method to the health and performance of athletes, the company also had its third patent accepted and its latest peer-reviewed research paper published.
