WEST HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of New Haven's graduate program in healthcare administration has become the only program in Connecticut presently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).
Program leaders have been pursuing this accreditation since 2014 and earned the accreditation on the first attempt. The University joins an elite group of CAHME-accredited institutions in the U.S. – including Boston University, Cornell University, Columbia University, and Johns Hopkins University, among others – that are committed to academic excellence, competency-based education, and continuous quality improvement in healthcare administration education.
The University of New Haven is the only CAHME-accredited institution in the area encompassing New York City, Boston, and Syracuse and is one of just four such institutions in New England.
"Earning this accreditation is a testament to our dedicated faculty, who work tirelessly to provide quality, competency-based education for our students," said Summer McGee, Ph.D., dean of the University's School of Health Sciences and director of its master's in healthcare administration program.
This accreditation will also provide enhanced opportunities for current students and alumni to be eligible for national scholarships, internship programs, and post-graduate fellowship programs that are only available to students in CAHME-accredited programs.
In achieving this internationally recognized accreditation, the University is now eligible for inclusion in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the top 70 master's degree programs in healthcare management, a ranking that includes only CAHME-accredited programs.
The M.S.H.A. program, created in 1994, offers convenient and flexible course offerings for more than 140 full-time and part-time students on campus and at its corporate location at the Yale New Haven Health System. The program serves early and mid-career professionals as well as international medical graduates across the healthcare industry. The program has more than 20 full-time and part-time faculty as well as relationships with multiple hospitals and health systems throughout the region.
"When you attend the University of New Haven for your master's in healthcare administration, you are receiving the gold standard in healthcare management education," says McGee. "As the program enters its 25th year in 2019, we look forward to taking this program and our students to the next level of national recognition and student success."
