BLOOMINGTON, Ind., April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- University of Indiana students in Bloomington and Lafayette will participate in gun violence prevention events organized in conjunction with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Campus Progress Action on the six-year anniversary of the Virginia Tech Massacre, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history in which 32 were killed and 30 more were injured. These events are part of a number of events taking place at college campuses throughout the country today to support commonsense gun law reforms that will save lives and protect communities.
On Tuesday, the Center for American Progress and Mayors Against Illegal Guns will also release a new survey of student opinions on the issue of gun violence prevention.
These events are taking place just days ahead of an important U.S. Senate vote on bipartisan legislation by Senator Joe Manchin and Senator Pat Toomey that would close the loopholes that allow criminals to get guns by requiring background checks for commercial gun sales – including at gun shows, online and via classified ads.
