University of Denver Named Winner of Local CFA Institute Research Challenge in Colorado & Wyoming
DENVER, Feb. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The CFA Society Colorado (CFACO) is pleased to announce the winning team of the 8th Annual Local CFA Institute Research Challenge. The University of Denver (DU) team will represent our state at the Americas Regional Competition, which is slated for the week of April 6, 2017 at the Westin in Seattle, WA. This year marks the fourth time this team took home the top prize at the local level under the guidance of Jean-Philippe Tremblay, CFA, associate teaching professor of finance and Van Wombwell, CFA of Highgate Securities Investments. Team members are Hannah Hunter, bachelor's of business analytics and finance major; Ford McCarty, master's in business analytics and finance major; Chris Martinez, master's of finance major; Sam Worley, bachelor's of finance major; and David Nafus, Denver MBA student.
Arrow Electronics (ARW), a Fortune 500® company with a $6.5B market cap specializing in distribution and value added services relating to electronic components, graciously agreed to serve as this year's subject company. Judges included Brian Demain, CFA, Portfolio Manager of the Janus Mid Cap Growth strategy; Ivan Sichkar, CFA, Investment Analyst at Culver Investment Company and President of CFACO; Chris Stansbury, SVP and Chief Financial Officer at Arrow Electronics.
The 8th Annual Colorado Competition welcomed the following universities: University of Colorado – Boulder; Metropolitan State University; Colorado State University; University of Denver; University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado – Denver, University of Wyoming and University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. Student teams worked to analyze the subject company; write a report highlighted by a buy, sell, or hold recommendation; and then defend their findings before a panel of industry experts.
Participation in the Research Challenge is an invaluable opportunity for the future generation of analysts to gain exposure to hands-on mentoring and intensive training.
