University of Dallas Announces $12 Million Gift for College of Business
College renamed for global steel entrepreneurs, MBA program graduates
IRVING, Texas, Oct. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Dallas has announced a $12 million gift from Dallas entrepreneurs Satish and Yasmin Gupta. The donation, which is the single largest in the university's 57-year history, will fund construction of a new academic building that will house the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business. Both are graduates of the university's MBA program.
"The University of Dallas inspired not only our careers, but our lives, and we hope this new College of Business will inspire business students who come to UD from all over the world," said Satish Gupta.
"Our dream is for the College of Business to become a global meeting ground for diversity and understanding among all cultures," said Yasmin Gupta. "We hope it empowers students to become leaders who go forth into the world and build stronger communities."
In 1981, while a business graduate student at the University of Dallas, Satish Gupta founded SB International, Inc., a privately-held global steel company headquartered in Dallas. As president and CEO, he has led the organization for more than 30 years. Executive Vice President Yasmin Gupta provides business administration leadership and guidance to several of the company's departments. Together, they have grown the company into a global supplier of prime steel and metal products, and one of the largest international suppliers and processors of pipe and tubing for oil and gas drilling.
"The Guptas set a tremendous example for our business students both in the drive and ingenuity they personify as entrepreneurs, and in their commitment to philanthropy and social responsibility," said University of Dallas President Thomas W. Keefe.
The Guptas serve Dallas/Fort Worth through various organizations related to cultural education and outreach, including the Gupta Agarwal Charitable Foundation of which Satish Gupta is the founder. They also support the Primary Care Clinic of North Texas and the Greater Dallas Arya Samaj Cancer Clinic, a system of non-profit healthcare facilities providing medical care to local uninsured adults.
Perkins+Will Architects, a national leader in higher education architecture, has been selected to design the state-of-the-art facility. The Beck Group, a third-generation, family-owned Dallas firm, will construct the building, slated to open fall 2015.
The University of Dallas College of Business, which grants bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, earned accreditation from AACSB International in 2012. The distinction is earned by fewer than five percent of business schools worldwide.
