BRADFORD, England, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Bradford announced today that it is collaborating with Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) to provide hi-tech, digital pathology training for both undergraduate and graduate students, a unique offering in the UK. Part of the School of Life Sciences, the Bradford Pathology program is using Philips Digital Pathology Solutions to educate students in the design and delivery of diagnostic pathology in the context of the modern laboratory.
By implementing the Philips Ultrafast Scanner & Image Management System, the University of Bradford is one of the first higher education institutions in the UK to provide a Masters' level module in digital pathology, which will provide training of these new digital tools for use in diagnostics. The program also leverages video-conferencing to allow clinical case review at global health systems and enable multi-disciplinary team meetings, while adhering to international privacy laws.
"The University of Bradford is committed to offering our students the most advanced training possible, preparing them for new ways of working in the modern lab," Dr. Samar Betmouni, director of clinical pathology, Bradford Pathology. "By partnering with Philips Digital Pathology Solutions, we're bringing the best technology to students to enable them to prepare for a more collaborative and efficient environment."
Bradford Pathology views this digital implementation as an opportunity to provide its students with the practical training necessary to become the top recruits in their field and to drive successful adoption of digital solutions across healthcare.
"Healthcare's transformation to a digital workflow is one that can drive efficiencies and improved outcomes across the health continuum," said Perry van Rijsingen, General Manager of Philips Digital Pathology Solutions. "The application of digitization to pathology can enable faster diagnoses and a whole new way of working for current and next-generation workforce, and training students early only enhances adoption of this process."
The Philips Digital Pathology Solution, part of the Philips connected technology solutions offering new opportunities for improved health management, recently received the CE mark for diagnosis, enabling pathologists in Europe to use the full digital solution as an aid in diagnosis for routine pathology.
