University of Arizona Parking and Transportation Services and Metropia App Partner to Reduce On-Campus Traffic, Incentivize Carpooling
TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The start of a new semester is stressful enough without worrying about making it to campus on time. That's why University of Arizona Parking and Transportation Services (UA PTS) and Metropia are teaming up to make the drive to UA campus less crowded and more rewarding.
Looking to find the ideal route to UA or find a less congested time to travel? Enter your trip into Metropia in advance and the app will notify you when it's time to leave and take you along the least congested route. With each trip, you'll earn reward points that can be exchanged for gift cards to Amazon, Starbucks and more!
You can earn those gift cards even faster by sharing a ride to campus. Thanks to Metropia's DUO social carpooling feature, you can pick up your coworkers or classmates and pick up rewards with the press of a button. Both drivers and passengers alike earn additional reward points for reducing traffic on campus when they DUO!
For your contribution to reducing campus congestion, you'll also earn a raffle ticket for every trip you take to UA with Metropia whether you're part of a carpool or driving alone. Each week this semester, five lucky raffle winners will take home a UA PTS provided prize pack featuring UA sunglasses, water bottles and more.
As part of the partnership, Metropia provides UA PTS with an enhanced analysis of campus traffic flow, which can give new insight on the UA transportation network, as well as help shape construction projects and other measures to improve on-campus mobility.
Wildcat football fans can also look forward to improved parking at home games this season. By using the Metropia app, drivers can find real-time available parking options before leaving for the stadium on game day. The Metropia app guides them to the best parking spaces while avoiding the heaviest traffic. Carpools of three or more Wildcat fans can even park for free at Tyndall, Main Gate, Park Avenue and Highland Avenue garages by using Metropia's DUO social carpooling feature.
This semester's program marks the latest continuation of Metropia's growing partnership with UA Parking and Transportation Services, a collaboration designed to enhance UA campus mobility, including providing detailed parking lot availability and fees, traffic control plans and traffic condition information. The groups have previously worked together to improve mobility at UA Spring Fling and the Tucson Festival of Books.
All UA students, faculty, and staff are invited to download the free Metropia app on the Apple App Store or Google Play and use the app for their daily commute to campus.
