REDMOND, Wash., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Univar Inc., a world leader in the distribution of chemistry and related products and services, broke ground on a new 52,000 square foot facility on 12 acres of land in Elmendorf, Texas in a ceremony on May 20th. The facility, located in the Alamo Junction Rail Park, is currently under construction, and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
The new facility enables Univar to better serve customers at the north end of the Eagle Ford Shale Basin and will be a full service distribution center with capabilities to blend and distribute packaged and bulk materials. Univar plans to expand its presence in Elmendorf during construction by relocating a few key employees and hiring approximately 20 people in the first year of operation.
"We are excited to join the Elmendorf community and to be a part of Alamo Junction," said Chris Oversby, Univar's President of Global Oil & Gas and Mining. "Establishing a distribution center here will help us increase our footprint in the Eagle Ford Basin, giving us an important position on the north side of the basin. We look forward to bringing new capabilities to our customers in this area by providing technical support and efficiencies directly at well sites."
The Elmendorf facility represents an important step in growing Univar's oil and gas footprint, as the nearby rail hub will enable the company to bring product into the facility, blend or package and distribute packaged or bulk materials. The facility at Alamo Junction gives Univar critical access activity in the Eagle Ford Shale, which produced more than 16.4 million barrels of crude in March, or around a quarter of Texas's overall monthly output of crude oil.
The Elmendorf facility is one of three new oil and gas distribution facilities Univar plans to open in 2014, bringing its total number of dedicated oil, gas and mining facilities in the United States to 25.
