The Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech Innovation All-Stars program pays tribute to Greater Boston's most inventive and enterprising technology companies and entrepreneurs that are fueling the region's economy, adding jobs, attracting VC funding and growth capital, and transforming every area of technology. Unitrends was named an Innovation All-Star in the "database/storage" category.
Unitrends has had a presence in Burlington, Massachusetts for several years, but decided to make the city its corporate headquarters this past July because of the region's abundant business opportunities and highly skilled talent. In 2014, Unitrends has already added 61 employees to its Burlington location, with a number of additional hires planned before year's end. All Innovation All-Stars will be honored during a ceremony at District Hall in Boston from 6-9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014.
On Oct. 21, winners of this year's South Carolina's Fastest-Growing Companies competition were announced. An annual ranking of the Palmetto State's 25 most dynamic and successful companies, the competition recognizes the achievements of top-performing private and publicly-owned companies that have contributed to South Carolina's economy through remarkable increases in revenues and employment. Unitrends placed No. 7 on this year's list, up two spots from its No. 9 placement in 2013. Columbia, South Carolina is home to Unitrends' engineering department as well as the company's unrivaled support team, which year after year maintains a customer satisfaction rating exceeding 98 percent. Unitrends has hired 55 employees in Columbia since Jan. 1 and will continue to augment its engineering and support teams to keep pace with market demand for the company's offerings.
Additionally, Unitrends Virtual Backup (UVB) 8.0, the only purpose-built virtual appliance providing hypervisor-level protection for VMware® vSphere™, Microsoft® Hyper-V® and Citrix® XenServer, was included on Computer Technology Review's Top 25 Must-Have Software Applications list. Designed to radically simplify virtual data protection, UVB 8.0 enables backup of multi-hypervisor environments in just four mouse clicks. With UVB 8.0, backup and recovery can be performed up to 20 times faster, using 66 percent less storage space and 75 percent less virtual resources than competing systems.
"To be recognized by these programs is gratifying validation of our continued innovation and ongoing contribution to the technology community as well as the economies in Massachusetts and South Carolina," said Mike Coney, president and CEO of Unitrends. "The remarkable growth and success we've achieved over the last several years is a direct result of our unwavering commitment to our employees and customers."
