BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Unitrends, the leader in cloud empowered continuity solutions, today announced that TMC, a global, integrated media company, has named Unitrends Boomerang™ a 2015 Cloud Computing Product of the Year. This award, presented by Cloud Computing magazine, honors vendors with the most innovative, useful and beneficial cloud products and services that have been brought to market in the past year.
Boomerang is an easy-to-use and cost-effective virtual appliance for replicating VMware virtual machines (VMs) to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud for low-cost backup and disaster recovery. Boomerang also automatically remodels replicated VMs to native Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) for fast execution, providing an ideal solution for migrating from on-premise systems to the cloud and for Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).
Boomerang significantly reduces the expenses associated with protecting VMs in the cloud by utilizing the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) and enabling network optimization. The solution also employs a "pilot light" approach for disaster recovery, which automatically converts stored VMs into AMIs for high-performance computing. Additionally, Boomerang can restore these AMIs as ready-to-run VMs back in the data center as needed.
"Recognizing leaders in the advancement of cloud computing, TMC is proud to announce Unitrends Boomerang as a recipient of the Cloud Computing Product of the Year Award," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "Unitrends is being honored for its achievement in bringing innovation and excellence to the market, while leveraging the latest technology trends."
Specifically architected for VMware environments, Boomerang takes into account local vSphere architecture for storage and networking. It also allows for simple two-way remodeling capabilities, so VMs may be moved back and forth between the data center and the cloud. Through the centralized dashboard, administrators can easily select and prioritize which VMs will be protected in the cloud.
Boomerang's key capabilities include:
"This latest honor from TMC underscores the tangible value Boomerang customers across four continents are realizing each day – cost-effective hybrid disaster recovery, quick cloudbursting capabilities and easy migration of VMs to the cloud," said Dr. Mark Campbell, Unitrends CTO. "Boomerang has been used by companies to perform thousands of VM replications to date. It's gratifying to see the virtual appliance earn industry recognition as an acclaimed cloud-based solution."
VMware vSphere users are invited to take advantage of Boomerang free trials with their own AWS accounts, or using Unitrends' AWS instances. Unitrends Boomerang is an AWS Advanced Technology Partner.
