Utilizing lessons learned during response efforts for Hurricane Katrina, the earthquakes in Haiti and the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma, United Way is helping to facilitate immediate action while assessing community needs, developing long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts and establishing key partnership with government and International aid programmes.
The United Way Worldwide Disaster Rebuilding Fund will be directed toward rebuilding schools, helping displaced workers find new jobs and addressing mental health and other needs that often do not present themselves until a year or more after disaster strikes.
As the world's largest privately-funded nonprofit, United Way mobilizes people and organizations with the passion, expertise and resources to support these much-needed efforts. Prime examples are companies like The Hershey Company, Fluor Corporation, and Pitney Bowes Inc. who have already made contributions to the Fund. The Community Chest of Korea (United Way in South Korea) recently allocated a gift of $1 million to recovery efforts in the Philippines.
Additionally, leaders from United Way of Southeast Louisiana have stepped forward and offered advice and resources in a show of network solidarity and appreciation for the outpouring of support they received in their time of need after Hurricane Katrina.
Your generosity goes a long way in helping to rebuild the affected communities. To make a gift, please visit www.unitedway.org/philippines.
