United Way of the National Capital Area, Bank on DC, and the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs to Host Free Forum: "Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future"
WASHINGTON, Sept. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, September 28, 2011, United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA), Bank on DC and the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs are partnering to provide free financial counseling to area residents. This event, "Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future," is open to everyone, but focuses on helping the Latino community take positive control over their financial well-being. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tubman Elementary School in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC.
"Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future" will feature representatives from banks, United Way NCA member organizations that provide financial literacy and job training services, and the Latino Economic Development Corporation. The forum seeks to inform the community about the vast resources available to help people find family-sustaining employment, better manage their money and improve their overall financial security.
"We couldn't ask for better partners for this event," said Bill Hanbury, President and CEO of United Way of the National Capital Area. "United Way NCA has the connections to the social service organizations that provide financial literacy and workforce development programming. Bank on DC has strong ties to financial institutions and the know-how to execute these types of forums. And the Office on Latino Affairs is able to help us reach a population that is traditionally underserved in terms of financial literacy."
Advisors will be on-hand to provide credit counseling, money management assistance, directions on how to open a free bank account, and opportunities for job training and placement.
