United Way Invites You to Join the National #GivingTuesday Movement
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) is joining #GivingTuesday to inspire people to take action to improve their communities and give back to help create a better world for everyone. On December 3, 2013—the Tuesday after Thanksgiving—#GivingTuesday will once again leverage social media to create a national movement dedicated to giving, just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday have been positioned to be synonymous with holiday shopping.
#GivingTuesday began last year, harnessing the collective power of its partners—nonprofits, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in giving.
"There is a part for each of us to play in improving our local communities. This year's #GivingTuesday gives everyone a chance to work together in a spirit of collective action to help move our region forward. United Way is proud to be your local partner to drive measurable, lasting impact that none of us can achieve alone," says Jill Michal, president and CEO of UWGPSNJ.
As the largest privately funded nonprofit in the U.S. and the world, United Way is asking donors, partners and volunteers that are part of the United Way movement around the world to join #GivingTuesday. Locally, UWGPSNJ invites individuals, groups and organizations to support the IMPACT Fund. Through its IMPACT Fund, UWGPSNJ invests in local nonprofit organizations and United Way-led programs that improve education from cradle to career, help individuals and families achieve financial stability, ensure everyone has access to the health resources they need, and strengthen the social safety net.
