United Technologies Establishes New Green Building Research Fellowship in Collaboration with Urban Green Council
NEW YORK, March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With residential and commercial buildings accounting for 40 percent of all energy consumed in the U.S., United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) is committed to supporting research to advance sustainability in buildings. Through the newly established United Technologies Research Fellowship at Urban Green Council, UTC will fund the creation of a fellowship position to lead a key urban building research project on behalf of Urban Green, the New York chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.
The fellowship is a full-time summer 2014 position focused on research related to construction codes and practices. The fellow will focus on either air sealing in residential buildings, in support of upcoming code mandates for increased airtightness, or will use New York City benchmarking data to validate statistical correlations between certain building characteristics and building energy performance.
"While significant growth has been achieved since the green building industry first began, there is still much opportunity," said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Building & Industrial Systems and chairman, board of directors, Urban Green Council. "We're pleased to create opportunities for emerging professionals to advance the field of sustainability through new research that could have a long-lasting impact here in New York and beyond."
"New York is a recognized leader in green building practice and regulation," said Russell Unger, executive director, Urban Green Council. "Proposals for change are most effective when they are supported by solid research."
