United States Steel Corporation Receives Final Approval For Minntac Expansion
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announces that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted the final necessary federal permits for expansion of the company's Minntac facility, located in Mountain Iron, Minn. The taconite mine extension project received the necessary state permits earlier this year.

"We are pleased to have the final permits in hand and begin work on the expansion."
As a result of the extension, Minntac will be expanded by 483 acres, extending the life of the mine by 16 years and ensuring the long-term competitiveness of the facility. Approximately 100 jobs have been created as a result of the project.
