Management and Dissemination of Information From a Controlled Environment Facility |
This patent details systems and methods for the dissemination of information from a prison or jail, and offers inmates and friends/family members the ability to subscribe/open notification information and data. Identification and contact information is stored in order to determine the status of the individual. A tangible computer-readable storage medium having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by one or more controlled-environment facility computer systems, cause the one or more controlled-environment facility computer systems to: accept identification, contact and any required payment information from a subscriber to establish a subscription to notifications about a particular resident of a controlled-environment facility and/or notifications about the controlled-environment facility, wherein the notifications that are available for subscription are determined based on an incarceration status of the resident; determine, or receive an indication from one or more other controlled-environment facility computer systems, when information about the resident hosted by the same or one or more other controlled environment computer systems changes and/or when a change is made to information about the controlled-environment facility; contact the subscriber; and notify the subscriber of the change during the contact or by directing the subscriber to a website. |
Mr. Smith continued, "We currently have approximately 200 software developers, over 100 field service technicians, and a large marketing and R & D Team that have good ideas – things that our prison and jail customers want, things that are unique, and we routinely turn those ideas into patents. It's our biggest, most valuable asset – good people with ideas that are solving our customers' problems.
"Our patent portfolio includes patents in most areas of corrections communications and operations including audio calling, video calling, fraud detection, call platform architecture, call storage, inmate purchasing, billing, call throughput, inmate monitoring, word spotting, automated information services, voice biometrics, and commissary services, and there are many other areas.
"The patent that was just issued along with the IVR technology that we developed can save the corrections industry $240,000,000 per year in responding to inmates and friends/family member questions – and those responses will be faster and more accurate. It is a great example of technology and creativity being applied to real-life problems to get a better result.
"We build patents around products that our customers want – and that is good for inmates, friends and family, officers, investigators, victims of crimes, and society – I am proud of what we have contributed to our industry. We improve inmate communications, reduce recidivism, help solve and prevent crimes – and ultimately save lives," concluded Smith.
