United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Joins Call for Washington to Work on Solution to Debt Ceiling and National Deficit
WASHINGTON, July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) today joins a large coalition of business leaders including the Business Roundtable, the United States Chamber of Commerce and Fortune 500 CEO's in urging the White House and Congress to come to an agreement on the debt ceiling and work together on a plan to reduce the nation's deficit.
"As the national voice for Hispanic and small business in America, the USHCC calls on the U.S. government to compromise in order to find a solution for the betterment of our nation," says Javier Palomarez, USHCC President and CEO.
The USHCC, which represents the interest of nearly 3 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States that generate nearly $400 billion annually, cites a dire need for access to capital by American small businesses, which represent 62% of jobs in the nation.
"As the backbone of our economy, small businesses employ the majority of America's workforce. This is a critical time for small businesses that are still being negatively impacted by the economic downturn. We simply cannot risk slipping back into a recession. We strongly urge Congress to place partisan differences aside and make a concerted effort toward building a plan that fulfills our financial obligations and puts the country's fiscal priorities in order."
