United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Applauds Rent-A-Center for Census 2010 Bilingual Outreach
WASHINGTON, May 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), the national representative for nearly 3 million Hispanic owned businesses and more than 200 local Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, applauds Rent-A-Center Inc. for encouraging all their customers to participate in the 2010 Census. Rent-A-Center and the 2010 Census partnered to publicize the importance of participating in this year's Census. Each Rent-A-Center store received clear, colorful flyers highlighting the importance of the Census questionnaire and the ease and security of participation. The cards are bilingual, with English on one side and Spanish on the other, and were offered to customers at the conclusion of their transaction.
"The USHCC is eager for the full population and particularly the Hispanic community to be counted in every city and town across America. Census numbers drive so much in our country, from funding for roads and schools to determining our representation in Congress. We cannot afford to miss this opportunity," said Javier Palomarez, president & CEO of the USHCC. "This is exactly the kind of initiative that shows how a trusted brand can help by serving as an effective messenger for a public cause."
"The Census is so critical – we wanted to do our part for this important national initiative," said Xavier Dominicis, Vice President - Public Affairs for Rent-A-Center, Inc. "We viewed this as a unique opportunity to work together with the communities and customers we serve by reaching out to our customers individually with an important public service message. As Census 2010 moves into the door-to-door data gathering phase, it is more important than ever for our neighbors to know why their participation matters and how the data is collected, how it will be used and how it will be maintained securely and confidentially," Dominicis emphasized.
