NEW YORK, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Spinal Association's membership division, National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA), will host free webinars in March on the topics of tax provisions for people with disabilities, followed by guidance on finding the right mobility equipment and services.

The first webinar Tax Provisions for People with Disabilities ––Wed., March 13th from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT, will provide information about:
- Deductions and credits for people with disabilities.
- The Earned Income Tax Credit.
- How to get taxes prepared for free.
Richard Keeling, a representative from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), will also discuss some asset building opportunities.
Mr. Keeling, a wheelchair user, began his career with the IRS in 1982. His primary responsibility is working with taxpayers with disabilities to improve their economic well-being. In addition, he is involved with the IRS hiring initiative to recruit, employ and retain veterans and other people with disabilities.
The second webinar Getting the Right Mobility Equipment & Services ––Thurs., March 28th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT, will cover rules under Medicare that may currently impact access to wheelchairs and other assistive technology, therapies and prescription drugs.
This webinar will include information on:
- How to get the right equipment, services and care.
- Clarify which suppliers to contact for equipment and services.
- Why Medicare denies necessary rehab equipment, prescription drug coverage and therapy.
- What the federal government is doing when it comes to your healthcare and quality of life.
- Tips will also be provided on how to be your own best advocate.
Featured speaker is Alexandra Bennewith MPA, VP, Government Relations, United Spinal Association. Alex was formerly senior manager of Government Affairs for the American Association for Homecare (AAH). She also has served the policy interests of patients/consumers at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and at the Spina Bifida Association of America.
