Insurers, Medicaid & Medicare, have restricted access to properly configured mobility equipment, risking the health and well-being of wheelchair users in order to save money.
"We are grateful for Permobil's support to ensure all people with mobility impairment receive properly configured mobility equipment so that they can live with independence and pursue their goals," said Paul J. Tobin, United Spinal's president and CEO.
"The more the public is aware that appropriate wheelchairs are vital to health and independence, the greater impact our advocacy efforts will have on the state and national level to increase access to this critical equipment," Tobin added.
The tournament will be held at the Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville, TN on Friday, September, 20, 2013, 1PM to 7PM (CDT). For an entry fee of $150 per individual player ($500/foursome), the day will include lunch, raffled prizes, and awards for longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one.
The type of mobility equipment for which United Spinal is currently advocating, commonly referred to as "complex rehab technology," promotes health by preventing debilitating skin breakdowns, enhancing respiratory ability and maximizing independence. It includes:
- Medically necessary individually configured manual and power wheelchair systems
- Adaptive seating systems
- Alternative positioning systems
- Other mobility devices that require evaluation, fitting, design, adjustment and programming.
"Permobil has sponsored the Permobil Charity Open golf tournament for the past 3 years. Each year a different charitable organization is chosen as the recipient of the proceeds from the event. This year Permobil is pleased to announce United Spinal Association as our charity of choice. We look forward to successful event and having United Spinal Association volunteers participating in the event," said Larry Jackson, President/CEO North America Operations.
