NEW YORK, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Spinal Association will present the 4th Annual Disability Leadership and Policy Summit on June 1st at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, focusing on protecting the rights to employment, transportation, and healthcare of people with disabilities.

The Summit, co-hosted by Hofstra University's Rehabilitation Program, will feature a panel of national leading experts discussing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Topics include implementation of healthcare reform law; accessible transportation issues; New York State Medicaid cuts; and Medicare's impact on funding, equipment reimbursement, outpatient therapy caps and physician payment.
A resource fair consisting of community organizations and agencies dedicated to improving the quality of life and independence of people living with disabilities will also be open to attendees.
Summit presenters will include John Kemp, executive director of Abilities, Inc.; Joseph Isaacs, CAE, United Spinal's vice president of Public Policy; Andrew Morris, United Spinal's director of Government Relations; Barbara Kornblau, JD, OTR/L, FAOTA, former dean and professor of Nursing at the University of Michigan-Flint; Bruce Darling, co-founder and executive director of the Center for Disability Rights; and James Weisman, United Spinal's senior vice president and general counsel.
Following the event, there will be a Visionary Awards Reception to present John Kemp with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Angela Davis, disability rights activist, will also be honored for her leadership to improve transportation throughout Nassau County.
