NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Spinal Association is working with Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital and Children's National Medical Center to learn more about the experiences of people living with neurogenic bladder––or the loss of normal bladder function––who use intermittent catheterization.
Persons who perform intermittent catheterization and who have spinal cord injury or spina bifida, or who are parents or caregivers of such individuals, will share their experiences in 1-hour focus groups, which will take place entirely online and by phone during December, 2014 and January, 2015.
Those interested should contact Ceylan Hasan at 202-877-1591 or email [email protected].
Participant information will be kept strictly confidential and will be used to develop a urinary symptom self-management protocol to help people with neurogenic bladder.
Neurogenic bladder is caused by brain, spinal cord or nerve conditions or disorders that may result in the bladder becoming overactive or underactive, and can secondarily impact the kidneys as well.
By comparing the information that participants share in the focus groups, researchers hope to get a better understanding of how and what urinary symptoms are experienced so that interventions may be developed to reduce symptoms.
