United Nations and Foundation for Social Change Honor SC Johnson as Global Leader of Change
Global Conference for Social Change Recognizes Company for Strong Commitment to Environmental and Social Issues
RACINE, Wis., Nov. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than 125 years, SC Johnson has set itself apart by bringing innovative and trusted products to consumers while committing to being a responsible corporate citizen. As a result of this unwavering dedication, SC Johnson was recently recognized as a Leader of Change at the third annual Global Conference for Social Change: Making the Business Case for Sustainability.
"We are truly honored to be recognized as a Leader of Change alongside these other remarkable companies. We continue to be committed to sustainability because doing what's right for people and the planet has been a core value of SC Johnson for decades," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President – Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability at SC Johnson. "As a family company, we strive to be a responsible corporate citizen by helping to protect the planet's resources, giving back to local communities and providing a great work environment for our nearly 13,000 employees globally."
The Foundation for Social Change, United Nations Office for Partnerships and New York University's Stern School of Business hosted the event to honor SC Johnson and other inspirational companies that are achieving business goals while tackling environmental and social problems. More than 400 senior executives from corporations, representatives from non-governmental organizations and government officials were in attendance at the Global Conference.
"This year's Leaders of Change honorees are an exemplary group of individuals and organizations who represent the strong leadership role needed to address social issues," said Roland Rich, Officer-In-Charge of UNOP. "Corporate engagement is essential to the international community's efforts to alleviate poverty, ensure clean water and help underserved populations realize healthy living. We want to recognize the creativity, technology and resources that the private sector brings to our collective efforts in solving social problems."
Leaders of Change winners are nominated for the award each year by a committee, which includes past award recipients. Honorees are selected based on several criteria including the ability to demonstrate "true leadership qualities in engaging and providing access to marginalized or underprivileged stakeholders."
