McGurn joined United Heartland's Executive Team today and is responsible for creating, implementing, and monitoring the strategic direction and executing operational plans for continual improvement to the United Heartland Claims department. McGurn replaces Patrick Walsh, who was recently appointed chief claims officer for Accident Fund Holdings and is responsible for creating a Corporate Claims organization to provide strategic oversight and shared service capabilities to all of Accident Fund Holdings' operating units, including United Heartland.
"Mary has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, with 15 of those years in various senior management roles," Stephan Cooper, president of United Heartland, said. "She has extensive experience overseeing claim performance and customer satisfaction, with a proven ability to capitalize on opportunities to improve outcomes, while leading cross-functional teams to ensure achievement of key objectives. I am very excited to have her on board and am confident she will help us continue our efforts to enhance our claim model and provide the best claim service in the business."
McGurn came to United Heartland from Xchanging in Chicago, Ill., where she served since 2009 as vice president of U.S. Claims Administration Sales, leading a national sales and marketing team responsible for new business development. Prior to joining Xchanging, McGurn served as senior vice president of Strategic Accounts and vice president of Client Services in the Midwest Region for Broadspire in Schaumburg, Ill. McGurn spent her career prior to Broadspire at Kemper Insurance Companies in a variety of claims positions between 1994 and 2003, completing her time there as director of Claim Training.
McGurn graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and psychology. Additionally, she earned an associate in claims (AIC) designation from University of Chicago.
