Unit 2 at PPL's Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant Returns to Service

BERWICK, Pa., April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Workers at PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Luzerne County, Pa., successfully completed planned maintenance on a water heating system and resumed generating electricity from the plant's Unit 2 early Monday (4/26).

The Unit 2 reactor was safely shut down early Friday (4/23) so workers could repair a tube in a system that heats water before it goes into the reactor.

"We take a proactive approach to maintenance to ensure that the plant operates safely and reliably," said Jeff Helsel, Susquehanna plant manager. Prior to the shutdown, Unit 2 had been operating safely and reliably for 341 consecutive days.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
