Unisys Projects for GSA and Los Angeles County Honored with Prestigious Awards
GSA email and collaboration project wins Government Computer News Award; L.A. County online benefits project receives Center for Digital Government Best Fit Award
BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced awards related to successful projects with government clients the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Los Angeles County (California), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Government Computer News honored GSA with a GCN Award for its Enterprise Email and Collaboration project. Under the project, GSA worked with Unisys to successfully migrate all of its 17,000 email users to Google Apps for Government, a secure cloud-based email and collaboration platform.
GSA expects the project to increase employee productivity, enabling employees to work remotely from any location at any time while resulting in a 50 percent cost savings. GSA will also benefit from new collaboration capabilities, such as direct access to onsite and remote colleagues through video chat and shared documents.
In addition, a Unisys project with the U.S. Department of Agriculture – the Agriculture Security Operations Center Sensor Array – received an honorable mention from the GCN Awards.
The GCN Awards honor federal and state and local government agencies for their extraordinary IT accomplishments and significant contributions to the performance of their agencies.
In a separate awards program, Unisys received the Modernization and Performance Award in Health and Human Services, one of the annual Best Fit Integrator Awards by e.Republic's Center for Digital Government. Unisys won for the company's work on Los Angeles County (California) "Your Benefits Now!" online application website.
Unisys, in partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS), created an on-line web application that allows any county resident to securely apply for health and human services assistance from any internet-connected device at any time and from anywhere. Within four months, more than 33,000 county residents, who may not have otherwise reached out to DPSS, applied for assistance.
The solution helps to verify citizens' eligibility and is expected to help DPSS to handle its growing caseloads by decreasing the need for participants to contact eligibility workers or customer service center staff to resolve case inquiries.
The Best Fit Integrator Awards honor firms who tailor technology solutions to suit the unique needs of government.
"We congratulate our clients GSA and USDA for these well-deserved awards recognizing their work on projects to make government more efficient while saving money for taxpayers," said Ted Davies, president, Unisys Federal Systems. "We are proud to have played a part in their success.
"We are equally proud of the recognition of Unisys' work with the County of Los Angeles, helping the L.A. County government better serve its citizens. All of these projects demonstrate Unisys' commitment to helping federal, state and local government agencies become more efficient and responsive to their constituents," Davies said.
