Unisys Project for Los Angeles County Honored with Prestigious Award for Second Consecutive Year

BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced it received the Collaboration and Modernization Award in Health and Human Services, one of the annual Best Fit Integrator Awards by e.Republic's Center for Digital Government.

Unisys won for the company's work integrating the Los Angeles County (California) YourBenefitsNow! (YBN!) online application website with the Healthy Way L.A. program to provide assistance to individuals newly eligible for Medicaid under recent health care reform legislation.

The award represents the second consecutive year the project was recognized with a Best Fit Integrator Award. Last year, Unisys received the Modernization and Performance Award in Health and Human Services for its work on the YBN! project.

Unisys, in partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, created an on-line web application that allows any county resident to securely apply for health and human services assistance using any internet-connected device at any time and from anywhere.

A new internal application, recently added to YBN!, allows more than 800 authorized county staff, community partners and legal organizations to securely provide services to health benefit recipients now covered as a result of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and California's Health Care Coverage Initiative. The new system will support the county in its effort to provide health care services to close to 200,000 additional low-income residents.

The solution provides a user-friendly interface that helps to verify citizens' eligibility and automates many processes that were previously handled manually. In collaboration with several departments of the L.A. County government, Unisys designed, developed and integrated the solution with the existing case management system and YBN! in less than six months.

The Best Fit Integrator Awards honor firms who tailor technology solutions to suit the unique needs of government. The Collaboration and Modernization Award recognized the ability of YBN! and Healthy Way L.A. to allow health and mental health agencies as well as partner organizations in the county to provide medical services where they are needed most.
