Unique Auto-Zero Function Provides Ultra High Accuracy in New Inline Strain Gage Amplifier from Measurement Specialties
User-selectable gain settings, wide bandwidth also contribute to exceptional measurement
HAMPTON, Va., May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Measurement Specialties (NASDAQ: MEAS), an expert in sensor design and manufacturing, has released the Model 142, a low-noise inline strain gage amplifier with an auto-zero function that provides extreme measurement accuracy.

The patent-pending auto-zero feature is initiated right before measurement either using an integrated push-button or remotely via a grounding pin. This function provides a zero reference within +/- 1.5 mV of true zero as well as corrects for zero errors due to mounting stresses or misalignment. Long term drift errors are corrected in real time so that the device is zeroed out prior to operation.
The high measurement resolution and wide bandwidth of the new Model 142 makes it useful in a number of data acquisition and instrumentation systems handling a high dynamic range, such as static force testing, load monitoring and strain measurement.
Designed to interface with quarter-bridge strain gages, the inline amplifier is housed in a 57 mm x 25.4 mm x 14 mm anodized aluminum case. When shipped from the factory, the Model 142 is configured to interface with a 350 ohm strain gage. User can change an internal resistor to match a different type of strain gage, if desired.
The noise level of the amplifier is exceptionally low with an RTI value of 30 nV/rt-Hz. The unit features five user-selectable gain settings, from x10 to x500, with an accuracy of +/- 0.5% and operates from -20 degrees C to +70 degrees C over a wide bandwidth of DC to 100 kHz.
Technical Specifications:
- Low-noise inline strain gage amplifier
- Patent-pending, unique auto-zero function for ultra-high accuracy
- Five selectable gain settings: x10, x50, x100, x200, x500
- Rugged, compact construction
- High temperature operation from -20 degrees C to +70 degrees C
Pricing for a Model 142 inline amplifier starts at less than $367 per unit in single quantities. Delivery time is dependent upon quantity ordered.
