Union President To Address National Press Club

WASHINGTON, March 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Federation of Government Employees National President John Gage will discuss current labor-management struggles and what they mean not just for public-sector workers but for all Americans at an event next week in Washington.

Gage will speak at a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Suite 480 (Broadcast Operations Center) of the National Press Building, 529 14th St. N.W., Washington, D.C.

As national president of the AFGE, Gage stands watch over the rights of 625,000 federal and D.C. government employees who belong to the nation's largest union for federal government workers.

Gage has led AFGE since 2003 and also is a vice president of the AFL-CIO, which represents 12.2 million employees across the country. Gage has been involved in the labor movement for more than 25 years.

AFGE National Secretary-Treasurer J. David Cox and AFGE National Vice President of Women and Fair Practices Augusta Thomas also will be in attendance.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 600,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
