Union Members to Hold Informational Picket on New Agency Mandate that Further Burdens Short Staffed Healthcare System
TEMPLE, Texas, Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Union activists with the American Federation of Government Employees will hold an informational picket on Wednesday, Aug. 14 to inform employees and patients of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System of the agency's proposed implementation of mandated split shifts that will further burden the short staffed healthcare system.
"We are deeply concerned that this new mandate will place further stress on our healthcare workers that are already struggling to do more with less," said Clementine Ray, president of AFGE Veterans Affairs Local 2109. "The agency has muscled this mandate through without proper negotiation with the union and we believe in doing so, the agency has violated our collective bargaining agreement. Our veterans are entitled to the best care that we can provide, but splitting the shifts of our short staffed healthcare team is not the way to deliver quality service."
