Union, Constituents to Protest Anti-Worker Vancouver, Washington Lawmaker
Rally outside Rep. Herrera Beutler's office to highlight harmful legislative agenda
VANCOUVER, Wash., Aug. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Constituents from U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler's congressional district will join with leaders from the nation's largest federal employee union to protest the first-term congresswoman's anti-worker legislative agenda on Wednesday.
The American Federation of Government Employees is organizing the rally outside Rep. Herrera Beutler's office to bring attention to policies being championed by the legislator that would harm federal employees and constituents in Colorado and across the country. The rally is part of AFGE's Fight Back campaign and the AFL-CIO's Summer of Accountability.
Rep. Herrera Beutler has voted to cut 10 percent of all federal jobs in Washington and across the country. This would mean a loss of nearly 500 jobs in her district or $19 million in lost revenue. She has also supported policies to cut funding for programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid while rejecting efforts to raise revenue by increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans and corporations.
