Union, Constituents to Protest Anti-Worker Plymouth, MI Lawmaker
Rally outside Rep. McCotter's office to highlight harmful legislative agenda
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Aug. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Constituents from U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's congressional district will join with leaders from the nation's largest federal employee union to protest the Michigan congressman's anti-worker legislative agenda on Friday.
The American Federation of Government Employees is organizing the rally outside Rep. McCotter's office to bring attention to policies being championed by the legislator that would harm federal employees and constituents in Michigan and across the country. AFGE is holding the rally in collaboration with We are the People, a diverse coalition of students, seniors, workers, families and organizations fighting to protect Michigan's middle class.
Rep. McCotter has voted to cut 10 percent of all federal jobs in Michigan and across the country. This would mean a loss of more than 2,000 jobs in his district, or $80 million in lost revenue. He has also supported policies to cut funding for programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid while rejecting efforts raise revenue by increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans and corporations.
