Union, Constituents to Protest Anti-Worker Lawmaker
Rally outside Rep. Lankford's Oklahoma City office to highlight harmful legislative agenda
OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Constituents from U.S. Rep. James Lankford's congressional district will join with leaders from the nation's largest federal employee union to protest the first-term congressman's anti-worker legislative agenda on Tuesday.
The American Federation of Government Employees is organizing the rally outside Rep. Lankford's office to bring attention to policies being championed by the legislator that would harm federal employees, retirees and veterans in Oklahoma and across the country. AFGE Local 916 represents more than 9,000 workers at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
By supporting the Paul Ryan budget plan, Rep. Lankford has voted to send 15 percent of all federal workers to the unemployment line, cut 5 percent of Defense Department civilian jobs (including more than 500 jobs in his district alone), and freeze pay for the 36,000 federal workers in his district for five years.
